Substance Use Disorder Program Design

Substance Use Disorder Program Design at NT Health Consulting helps organizations build or strengthen addiction treatment services that are clinically sound, operationally realistic, and defensible under scrutiny. Led by a fellowship-trained, board-certified addiction medicine physician and experienced health system executive, we support hospitals, health plans, and community programs seeking to respond more effectively to the SUD crisis.

We begin with a structured assessment of your current services: access points, screening practices, MAT availability, psychosocial supports, referral pathways, staffing, and documentation. We examine outcomes, utilization patterns, payer relationships, and any history of regulatory or legal concerns, then identify where your program aligns with contemporary standards and where gaps expose patients - and the organization - to risk.

From there, we design an integrated SUD program model appropriate to your setting and resources. This may include ED-initiated treatment, inpatient consult services, outpatient clinics, virtual care components, peer support, and care management. We define clinical protocols, scope of practice, escalation criteria, and collaboration with primary care, psychiatry, and community partners.

Because addiction care sits at the intersection of clinical care, stigma, regulation, and liability, we embed clear documentation practices, consent and privacy safeguards, and policies for controlled substances, diversion risk, and high-risk discharges. We also help align program design with payer expectations, quality metrics, and emerging regulatory guidance.

Our work products - service blueprints, staffing models, clinical pathways, and policy frameworks - are written with an eye toward defendability in malpractice, wrongful death, or coverage disputes. We collaborate remotely with multidisciplinary stakeholders across regions, ensuring that each program reflects local realities while standing firmly on evidence-based addiction medicine principles.
